Redwater program looks to success in coming year
The 2022-2023 school year was a step in the right direction for Redwater athletics. Strides were made in each sport to put the program in a position to excel in each sport. Redwater saw playoff appearances in multiple sports for the first time in years and competed for the district title in all sports.

Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is Casey Cavin. The 34-year-old athlete is from New Boston and a graduate of New Boston High School. Casey is a veteran of the Bowie’s Best Special Olympics team, having competed in the games since the team began in 2016. Casey competes in the 50 meter dash, the softball throw and the 4 by 100 meter relay in the spring and also plays softball in the fall. Casey said his favorite part about participating in the Special Olympics is having the opportunity to go different places and riding the bus with his friends and teammates. He also loves seeing his friends from past events and meeting new people. When he’s not competing for Bowie’s Best, he plays softball for the Challenger League in Texarkana.

The Texas Tens are on their way to play at Nationals in Hot Springs after coming off an undefeated weekend of play at the Stars and Stripes Classic DFW. Their championship victory included four extra innings on Sunday which ended with the Tens beating the Texas Dragons 12-10.

Bowie’s Best Athlete
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is Rebekah Dannar of New Boston. A 16 year veteran of the Bowie’s Best Special Olympics team, Rebekah participates in the spring track and field events and fall co-ed softball. Rebekah said her favorite thing about participating in the games is that she is able to spend time with her friends and teammates who are like her and meeting new people in the different cities they compete. She says her hope is to never be too old to participate in the Special Olympics events. Outside of the games, Rebekah says she likes to meet new people, learn new things and just being herself. “Sometimes people don’t get why I am me, but I tell them God makes no mistakes and I’m super special to him and my mom,” she added.
