Call it a ministry or call it a mission, but the congregation of DeKalb First Baptist Church has jumpstarted a new euort to reach out to their community and help the people of Western Bowie County and the surrounding area that are in need.
Their most recent euort was announced in a live video last Tuesday, and it is called Sweet Dreams.
Sweet Dreams is simple. If you are a young person without a bed, they have one for you. Pastor James Sparks said in his live video that the church understands that budgets are tight. It is expensive to live and sometimes at the end of month there is just not enough to go around.
They asked how they could help and through prayer they began to focus on one area: sleep.
Studies show that not getting enough sleep causes a variety of problems for children, so the church is gearing up to do all they can to make getting a good night’s sleep a little easier.
Pastor Sparks said, “We don’t want any child to sleep on the floor in our town.”
The church will be providing brand new twin beds along with new bedding at absolutely no cost, with no strings attached. When a bed is given, it is yours.
The beds are individual twin beds, but they do safely stack into bunk beds to meet the needs of those families who may need more than one bed in limited space.
Those in need only need to reach out to the church to get a bed. There is no credit check, no background check, or a check of any kind. If you need a bed for a child, one will be provided. The ministry is also com- pletely confidential. Every -thing is done anonymously and none of your personal information will be shared with anyone.
All you have to do is reach out through a text, a Facebook message, or a phone call. Someone will respond and ask basic questions like how many beds are needed and whether the beds are for a boy or a girl, as the bedding can be tailored for either.
The church will be reaching out to local school districts and apartment complexes for help to identify potential needs.
“We are not trying to do anything but just help families that need a little help,” said Sparks, “Our desire is to glorify God in all things. We are ready to make this happen… this is not a First Baptist thing, it’s a God thing.”
The church is ready to provide beds immediately. The first beds have already been constructed and delivered.
