Ray Shumake passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 at his home in De Kalb, Texas.
He was 86.
Ray was born September 6, 1937 in De Kalb, Texas to William and Bessie Proctor Shumake. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and Army National Guard.
Ray was a retired Roller Mill Operator for Lone Star Steel. He was the owner and trainer of racehorses. Ray was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Linda Bates Shumake; and one brother, Gay Shumake.
He is survived by three brothers and two sisters- in-law, Max Shumake of De Kalb, Texas, Boyd Wayne and Judy Shumake of Texarkana, Texas, and David and Nancy Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; one sister, Shirley Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; Godchildren, Joe, Charlie, Manuel, Marleigh, and many young men who worked for him; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Bro. Roy Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.
Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
