I-30 widening in Texarkana to enter new phase of construction
As soon as midweek next week, the traffic pattern on a portion of eastbound I-30 will change as the contractor prepares for the next phase of the project to widen the interstate from four lanes to six lanes.
Both lanes of eastbound I-30 mainlane traffic in Texarkana will be shifted to the frontage road at the State
Line Avenue exit. From there, interstate traffic will be able reenter mainlanes west of State Line Avenue or
continue on to access State Line Avenue. The speed limit for the mainlane traffic will be reduced to 55 miles per hour along the temporary traffic shift.
Motorists traveling eastbound on the frontage road will be restricted to one lane during this time. Concrete
traffic barrier will separate interstate traffic from frontage road traffic. Frontage road traffic needing to
access I-30 will travel through the intersection at State Line Avenue and enter the I-30 mainlanes at the
entrance ramp in Arkansas.
North Park Road in the area under I-30 will be closed to vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
Work during this phase is estimated to take 12 months to complete. Inclement weather or other unforeseen
issues could cause delays or changes in the work schedule.
During this phase, crews will remove and replace a portion of the eastbound interstate bridge across the railroad and build about 4,000 feet of the new eastbound lanes.
TxDOT reminds local commuters that the I-30 Frontage Road system allows traffic to travel eastbound from
FM 989/Kings Highway to US 71/State Line and westbound from US 71/State Line to FM 989/Kings Highway,
continuously, without ever stopping at a traffic signal.
